LGBT Elders in an Ever-Changing World
This year’s virtual one-day conference will focus on interdisciplinary practice and community engagement for people working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender older adults and caregivers. The conference is also appropriate for any consumers looking for alternative resources, services, or community programs to help support their individual aging or caregiving needs. This year’s conference features nationally known speakers Jess T. Dugan & Vanessa Fabbre, Ph.D., LCSW, followed by afternoon workshops that cover topics such as LGBT Aging 101:What You Need to Know About Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Older Adults; Bisexuality and Aging; and Trans-elders and Dementia: What if I Forget Who I Am?, among others.
I’ve Got My Game On: Insights from Trans Elders on Well-Being in Later Life
For over five years, photographer Jess T. Dugan and social worker Vanessa Fabbre traveled throughout the United States, creating To Survive on This Shore: Photographs and Interviews with Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Older Adults. Seeking subjects whose lived experiences exist within the complex intersections of gender identity, age, race, ethnicity, sexuality, socioeconomic class, and geographic location, they journeyed from coast to coast, to big cities and small towns, documenting the life stories of this important but largely underrepresented group of older adults.
